Health Improvement Practitioners (HIPs)

Registered health professionals who can help people with all aspects of health and wellbeing. HIPs work alongside the team at the GP clinic, and can see anyone (who is registered at the GP practice) of any age for any reason.

Health Improvement Practitioners (HIPs)

HIPs help with emotional, physical and behavioural wellbeing which can include low mood, anxiety, stress, work-life balance, relationships, parenting, drug and alcohol misuse, pain, sleep, work issues, burnout, pain, loss and grief, bullying and behavioural issues.

When you see a HIP, you will spend about 20-30 minutes together, a standard questionnaire will usually be completed, this helps to understand who you are and what you world looks like, what areas you are thriving in, what areas need some support and help, then together a plan is developed to address the issue.

HIP sessions are not counselling or therapy. However sometimes people find this service helpful while waiting for a counselling appointment or if they want some tools and skills to cope with challenges.

HIPs are available on the day of your GP or nurse appointment, or you can call the clinic to find out more about seeing a HIP. HIPs are available Monday to Friday 9-3.15pm.

There is no cost to seeing a HIP – the service is fully funded.

If you feel you don’t need to talk to anyone, there are other resources that can help too
